After that he was able to install VS2010 again. If that is the case, you'll need to try to run it manually with logging enabled during a setup session. Seems like some updates were corrupted, but the important thing about that is, that visual studio is working now. Of course, it does not work in 100% of scenarios. I ran PC-Kitchen's RegistryCleaner (it doesn't matter which Registry Cleaner you run) and it solved the problem. I will download them and take a look and see what I can figure out about the root cause of the setup failure from there.
